Why did the chicken cross the road?

Because he thought the other side might be better!

I do wonder, is this chicken a maverick, a brave soul trying to push himself to find new horizons?

Is he exploring his limits?

Is he extricating himself from his comfort zone?

Is HE, the hero?

Or is he a fool?

Always convinced that ‘the other side’ will be better.

Never fully committing himself to ANY course of action.

Is he taking unnecessary risks by negotiating heavy traffic?

Or does he appreciate that without risk there is NO reward?

Maybe he is a coward?

Maybe he is trying to escape a situation HE is responsible for?

Running away from his problems rather than confronting them and overcoming them and learning from them?

Is he trying to escape his responsibilities by convincing himself that the other side of the road awaits some sort of utopia?

Clearly this is not as simple as it first seems.

What seems like a black and white question is anything but.

We humans are the same, and it’s one of the reasons I enjoy my work so much.

Because people are fascinating and nuanced, and we all have wildly different financial and lifestyle goals and dreams.

Rare is the client who (when the pieces of the puzzle are all laid bare) has a singular ‘goal’ to ‘retire at 60’, or to just ‘sort out their pension’.

If I come across one of these rare beings – I cheerfully direct them towards a transactional Financial Adviser who will happily flog them a product, because that sort of ‘transactional’ work just doesn’t excite me.

I enjoy working with people who are motivated by life, by love…

I enjoy helping them to identify, achieve and maintain their desired lifestyle without FEAR of running out of money.

Now THAT sounds like something worth crossing the road for.
