We were very proud to have been invited along to the Laila Milly Foundation’s annual charity ball last night after raising funds in support of their cause throughout this year.

This wonderful charity was founded by Maya and Steve McCormack in memory of their daughter Laila Milly, who sadly passed away on 2nd March 2011, a day before her 1st birthday. Laila was born with a rare neurological condition called Aicardi Syndrome which meant that she required 24 hour care. Maya and Steve know how difficult life can be for families who have a child with a serious illness and they created the charity with the aim of offering care and support tailored and delivered to each family they help, allowing both the child and parents to live as near normal a life as possible. They also hope to link families in their community that are in similar situations and provide support and relevant training to parents.

At their day centre in Hemsworth, West Yorkshire, they aim to enhance the quality of life for the children and their families within their local community and surrounding areas. They provide care and support in a secure environment for each family and child at a time when they need it the most.

As someone who doesn’t have children, I cannot even begin to imagine how life changing and challenging it must be to have a child with additional care needs, it warms my heart to know that there are people like Maya, Steve and their community, who go out of their way to support those less fortunate.
